Well, we have been busy! Hans' parents and sister came to visit us from Holland. So we have been on the road a lot!
They flew in, in a bumpy ride, through the worst freak storm this year. After that it all got better. We showed them where we lived and went to the mountains. We showed them Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park and got treated by a couple of yellow bellied marmots, a lot of elk and two coyotes who just walked by the car as if we weren't there at all.

After four days they left to go on a trip through the Rockies, towards Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and more, and they will be back in 10 days or so.
Well, meanwhile I got some presents. Hans bought me an icecreammachine (we really don't see that a lot in Holland) and a stone polish machine (tumbler), just because I always collect little dirty stones where ever I go, and now I can polish them.. :)
So we put a lot of stones in the tumbler and that will take about a month before the whole process is finished, but it is fun to do!
The ice machine was a challenge. Naturally, I did not read the instructions :)
So I made the whole recipe, threw it all in the icemaker, turned it on... and... it mixed slowly, but other than that... nothing.
So all in all we let the whole thing turn and churn for an hour... it just didn't get cold (don't laugh). So finally we opened the little instructionbook and.... we had to put the innerbowl in the freezer first BEFORE we could use it. hehehehehe
So we laughed till our bellies hurt and tried again the next day and made some delicious icecream!

And the little bird is doing good on her nest at the frontdoor. We still don't use the door, since she gets really pissed when we do :) She had one egg hatched, but that little fellow died. (I peek when she is gone). So she threw it out the door and now a second one hatched and that one seems to be doing much better. It gets little feathers and all. See picture... yeah, that's a bird.
The third egg has cracked, so hopefully she will have another healthy kid there.
We will keep an eye out. We also chase away big birds who come to steel her eggs or young. I know, we shouldn't and let nature have it's way, buy hey, she decided to have us in her life when she build her nest at the front door, so here we are. Godmother and - father watching over her young when she is out :)

Nou, we zijn druk geweest hoor! Hans' ouders en zus kwamen op bezoek. Dus we zijn veel op pad geweest!
Ze vlogen hierheen in een enorme storm. Maar nadat ze eenmaal geland waren ging alles beter. We hebben ze de omgeving laten zien, en het park natuurlijk en zijn verwend met het zien van verschillende marmotten, veel elk (grote herten) en twee coyotes die net deden of we er niet waren en vlak langs de auto wandelden.

Na vier dagen hier zijn ze op weg om en rondtour te maken door de omgeving. Over een dag of tien zien we ze wel weer verschijnen.
In de tussentijd heb ik wat cadeautjes gehad van hans. Een ijsmaker (Ja, dat kennen we niet zo in Holland, maar hier is het heel populair!) en een steen-polijst-machine, omdat ik altijd overal kleine steentjes van meesleep en nu kan ik ze polijsten.. :)
Dus we hebben de steentjes in de polijstmachine gedaan en het hele proces zal ongeveer 1 maand duren voor het klaar is. Geduld geduld.
De ijsmachine was wat minder makkelijk, maar dat kwam omdat we het instructie boekje natuurlijk niet lazen! :)
Ik heb het hele recept gemaakt, spul in de ijsmachine, ding aanzetten... niets.... De machine draaide wel enzo maar het werd maar niet koud. Dus nog een keer proberen en nog een keer. Toen maar het boekje gelezen. Bleek dat we de binnenkom eerst 24 uur in de vriezer moesten leggen. hahahahaha
Nou, vandaag weer geprobeerd en ja hoor... prachtig ijs! Chocoladeijs!
En de kleine vogel op d'r nest bij de voordeur zit er nog. Een jong is helaas doodgegaan, en die heeft ze voor het gemak maar uit d'r nest gekiepert. Een ander ei is nu opengegaan en daar zat een sterker jong in. Die heeft inmiddels al wat piek veren... hahahaha Kijk maar op de foto... ja ja, dat is een vogeltje... geloof me maar.
Het laatste ei is nu gekraakt, en hopelijk komt ook daar een gezond jong uit. We houden het in de smiezen.
We jagen ook de grote roofvogels weg bij het nest. Ja ja, we weten dat we natuur zijn gang moeten laten gaan, maar de vogel heeft ons uitgekozen om hier haar nest te bouwen, dus wij voelen ons onmiddellijk betrokken bij haar jong. Peetvader en moeder... hahahaha We letten wel op hoor, als zij van het nest weg is.
